How to contact the emergency services in France when you are unable to talk or to be understood.
Following an accident or sudden illness, you may be unable to talk to or be understood by emergency service phone operators. Or perhaps you’re in a situation where talking might make the emergency worse either as the victim or witness.
If any of these situations apply you can now use the new ‘Urgence 114’ service to let the emergency personnel know what’s wrong and where you are.
The new service launched by the Gendarmerie Nationale is very simple: either text your information to 114 or fax a simple form to 114. Either way the emergency services will respond that they have either understood your situation or that they need more information. Urgence 114 staff will then connect with the emergency services closest to you.
The fax form can be downloaded here.
